After three years of writing for other people, Pearlman decided to take some time to rediscover who she was as an artist. She embarked on a week long silent meditation retreat which ultimately led to a year of traveling alone. With only her voice, her baritone ukulele, and an electronic drum kit, Katie began working on a body of work which she calls the Mantra Songs. Focusing on themes of growing up, isolation, death, and freedom, the result is a stirring blend of psychedelic, stream of consciousness material, rich in story telling and expressive in melodies.
